Jaspal Singh, professionally known as JSL Singh, is an Indian music director, composer, and singer from New Delhi. Born on May 27, 1984, in a Sikh family in Delhi, JSL developed a passion for music early on. (He often quips in his social media bio that if music hadn't called, the Army would have.) He began his career experimenting with Punjabi and pop influences, and burst onto the scene in 2012 after creating a viral Punjabi remix of the hit song "Why This Kolaveri Di" – cleverly titled "Kolaveri Punjabified (Desi Touch)". This Punjabi cover, featuring JSL's vocals and production, garnered widespread attention and set the stage for his entry into the Punjabi music industry.

After the Kolaveri success, JSL Singh released his own singles and honed his signature style. His musical approach blends Punjabi folk elements with modern western genres, yielding songs that are catchy, club-friendly, yet melodically rooted. As JSL himself has noted, his production style is often described as "western, club-oriented, catchy, folk and melodic," and he's especially known for fusing traditional Punjabi vibes with hip-hop and EDM influences. Over the years, he has consistently pushed genre boundaries – from hip-hop and R&B experiments to high-energy bhangra beats – making his sound distinct in the South Asian music scene.

JSL Singh's background in New Delhi's vibrant music culture and his education in sound engineering (he is largely self-taught, coming up through practical experience) gave him a versatile foundation. He started by producing for local artists and composing jingles, but real fame came with the breakthrough singles in the early 2010s. By 2013, JSL had composed a series of popular Punjabi tracks and even ventured into film music. His upbringing in a Sikh household also influenced some of his work – notably the spiritual single "Assi Haan Sikh", which later earned him an award. Throughout his career, JSL has balanced independent music projects with film soundtracks, all while cultivating a fun-loving, experimental image (often using the nickname "JSL Baby" in his early years). Today, with over a decade in the industry, JSL Singh is regarded as a trendsetter in Punjabi music, known for his infectious beats and creative collaborations.
